Foreign Affairs Assistant Minister Richard Onyonka is locked in a row with the party that sponsored him to Parliament. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) wants to withdraw sponsorship for the Assistant minister because he had allegedly breached its constitution by flirting with ODM, contrary to the party’s constitution. In a letter to the Kitutu Chache MP, PDP has notified him that he risked losing his seat as a result. National Chairman Stephen Nyarangi Osomu said the party’s constitution barred Onyonka — its only MP — from subscribing or promoting activities of another political party. The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) gave Onyonka 21 days to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. Response demanded The NEC has threatened to lodge a complaint with the Registrar of Political Parties, the Interim Independent Electoral Commission and House Speaker if Onyonka fails to respond. The letter further says the party has evidence to show that the MP has been making his contributions to ODM, a proof that he had deserted or technically resigned from PDP. "We have also noted that you previously vied for the ODM Kitutu Chache Branch chairmanship whereby you lost to the current office bearer," the letter dated September 24, this year alleges. The party won one parliamentary and 17 civic seats in the last General Election. Onyonka could, however, not be reached for comment as efforts to contact him on his cell phone failed.
