A senior police officer was yesterday fined Sh5,000 for contempt of court. Ogembo Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Duncan Ngiki was to serve a seven-day jail term if he failed to raise the fine. He paid the fine.
The OCS appeared before senior resident magistrate Lily Nafula following a warrant order issued against him after he failed to attend court.
The magistrate issued the warrant yesterday after Mr Ngiki failed to appear to explain why an order issued on August 5 had not been complied with. The court had ordered that Mr Francis Onyimbo Okechi be taken to Kisii Level Five Hospital for a mental examination.
Honour summons
When the case resumed the prosecutor called for adjournment, saying that he had not received any report from the OCS concerning the accused. And when the matter came up for mentioning again, the prosecutor said the same thing, prompting the magistrate to issue summons for Mr Ngiki.
The OCS was arrested and escorted to court by Gucha deputy police boss Ranson Lolmodon.
Mr Ngiki explained that he had failed to honour the summons because he had gone to attend to a sensitive matter in Kisii
