Mugirango votes mix-up continues

Presidential and civic votes cast in 2007 were on Tuesday found in a ballot box during the recount of the South Mugirango ballots.

A box from Nyatwoni polling station contained five presidential and five civic ballot booklets and four used presidential and four civic counterfoils.

Two spoilt presidential and civic ballots were also found.

Mr Ochwari Otiso, representing the petitioner, Mr Manson Oyongo, observed that there were discrepancies in votes in forms 16A and 17A for three candidates.

Mr Katwa Kigen, representing assistant minister Omingo Magara, agreed, but added that the results for the other candidates were correctly captured in 16A.

In a related development, Mr Oyongo has asked the court to compel the Interim Independent Electoral Commission to produce the ODM nomination papers for South Mugirango in 2007.

But the other parties have apposed the application, saying it was late. Mr Justice Daniel Musinga will rule on the matter on Friday.
