AN anxious South Mugirango by-election hopeful has demand" ed that the national election agency releases a programme for the polls.
Manson Nyamweya of Ford People claimed failure by the Interim Independent Electoral Commission to announce the election date has created unnecessary speculation and driven rumourmongers into an overdrive.
Nyamweya, who successfully challenged the election of Omingo Magara, said the polls anxiety is affecting development initiatives in the constituency.
"We don't know whether the CDF committee is still operating. It will be shocking and surprising if the committee is still operating and yet there is no MP, " Nyamweya said. "Students should be getting bursaries to join Form One at the moment. This is being affected by the IIEC's delay in holding the election. It is paramount for the people to be represented in parliament especially during this time of constitutional review."
IIEC chairman Issack Hassan has indicated the election will be held in June. "We are getting conflicting information on the election date. Some are saying April, others May, while the chairman was . quoted in the press saying June. This should be clarified so that we hit the ground soliciting for votes," he said.
Election fever has gripped the constituency with more than 13 candidates joining the race. Those gunning for the seat on an ODM ticket are former MP Omingo Magara, Henry Ogeto, Gideon Moreka, Zebedeo Nyaboga, Rosemary Obara, Ombasa Apepo and Ibrahim Ochoi.
Others are Nyamweya of Ford People, David Kombo of ODM-K, Rashid Miyonga of PNU and Dr Ezekiel Okemwa.
