Kisii Stone Sculpture To Be Displayed At US Embassy

A STONE sculpture will be displayed in front of the US Embassy in Nairobi to remind Kenyans of the post election violence.

US Ambassador Michael Ranneberger yesterday said: "We shall display the sculpture outside our embassy as a reminder of the chaos, a celebration of peace that we achieved and as a symbol of hope for the future."

The sculpture christened "The Dancing Birds" will be officially unveiled at the embassy 'in the next couple of months' according to Ranneberger.

It was donated by a group of sculptors from Kisii to the Americans for their role in brokering peace after the bungled 2007 General Elections. "I will invite Kenyan leaders to the ceremony. This will be a good time to remind them that Kenya must have peace and stability," Ranneberger said.

Ranneberger who was accompanied by assistant minister for foreign affairs Richard Onyonka, MPs Charles Onyancha (Bonchari) and' Simon Ogari (Bomachoge) hailed the, carvers and the Kisii community for the honour. The sculpture made from granite is 30 tonnes and 10ft tall.
