A suspect linked to the murder of freelance journalist Francis Nyaruri has been arrested in Kisii. cm boss Issa Mohammed said the suspect had gone into hiding and only resurfaced recently.
"Detectives arrested him immediately he was spotted in town. He went into hiding after the killing of Nyaruri a year ago," said the cm boss.
"The suspect managed to escape shortly after being arrested but the police later re-arrested him shortly after intense search," he added. The suspect is said to be the leader of a break away Sungu Sungu group suspected to have been hired to kill Nyaruri. Mohammed said the suspect has been transferred to Kisumu where the case is being handled.
He said police were on the trail to arrest other suspects. "Most of the suspects are on the run but we are trailing them," he added. Nyaruri who was a Weekly Citizen correspondent was abducted from Kisii town a year ago and his body found at Kodera Forest in Rachuonyo a week later.
One suspect has since been charged with the murder.
