Secondary schools in Nyamira District continued to perform dismally in KCSE exams although the general mean grade rose from 3.4 to 4.05.
Out of 4, 700 candidates who sat for the exam in the region last year, only 40 of them scored B+ and above, the minimum grade for direct entry to public universities.
In the previous year, 24 candidates scored B+ and above. The poor showing has been attributed to the splitting of the district to form Manga and Borabu, which took the best performing schools like Nyambaria, Menyenya and Nyansiongo.
While releasing the KCSE results on Thursday, the district education officer, Mr Hassan Duale, said only 326 out of the 4,700 candidates scored C+ and above.
