FORMER South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has claimed there is a plot to lock him out of the forthcoming by-elections.
He accused a senior politician from Gusii of scheming to rig him out, but vowed he will regain the seat. "My name will be in ballot paper whether they like it or not. Their evil schemes will be defeated when the people of South Mugirango confirm what they did in 2007," added Magara.
"I'm the cup holder and I have a right to defend my title. Those who think they will, eliminate me ..in the nominations should start preparing for the final showdown," he said. Magara was speaking at Nyango DOK secondary school in Gucha South district during a funds drive. Opinion is divided as to whether Magara should be given direct ODM nomination or face his opponents in party primaries.
Other aspirants who attended the meeting were Apepo Ombasa of ODM, Joshua Ondora of Kanu, ODM's Zebedeo Nyaboga and the latest entrant Orwaru Otwere. Magara reiterated that he won the 2007 fairly; "I won fairly and my win was vindicated in a recount ordered by the high court. I'm upbeat that I will win again," he added.
Magara asked his opponents not to buy youth illicit brews to heckle speakers during campaign meetings. But Ombasa challenged Magara to state why he needs another term in office. He said: "You should tell us why you want 15 years. You had all the years to develop the constituency." Magara said all aspirants should campaign freely in the constituency. "The other day Nyaboga came to our home to seek for votes and we took tea together, that's what we want from others," he added.
Ondora asked leaders to make use of all professionals in the constituency to develop the region. "Politicians should not be afraid of professionals. We have a lot to offer in terms of development," added the Kanu candidate. Ondora, a Nairobi businessman said the Kisii community needs a strong political force, saying the community has lost direction politically.
Nyaboga the Gucha South Knut treasurer said the people of South Mugirango are looking forward to change of leadership. More than 17 candidates have declared interest in the seat.
