Tension was high at the stock theft prone Borabu-Sotik border after heavily armed cattle rustlers shot dead a school watchman as they drove away stolen animals. The stock thieves had raided Evans Anyona. Area DC Hassan Noor said the cattle rustlers killed Peterson Mong. Mr Noor said the police fired three bullets during the brief exchange of fire, but the three-man gang escaped on foot into darkness.

The DC said the officers recovered two cattle from the gang.
Local OCPD Ranson Lolmodoni said his officers were still pursuing the thugs and appealed to the public to volunteer any information that could lead to their arrest.
Residents led by Borabu Kenya National Union of Teachers branch Executive Secretary John Matiangi claimed stolen livestock found their way into markets in Sotik and Trans Mara districts.
North Mogirango/Borabu MP and National Heritage Assistant Minister Wilfred Ombui condemned the incident and asked police to move fast in their investigation to bring those behind the raids to book.
He said it was sad that locals who are determined to eke out a genuine living through dairy farming had become target of armed cattle rustlers who kill and steal their livestock at will.
