Councillors opposed to Kisii Mayor Samuel Nyangeso’s leadership have taken charge of all departmental committees, including the coveted finance docket.
During a stormy Annual General Meeting attended by 16 civic leaders and which the mayor chaired, Councillor Alloys Moseti of Getare Ward was elected Finance Committee chairman. Mr Moseti of ODM, who has sharply criticised Mr Nyangeso’s reign, garnered 12 votes to Councillor Lucy Bosire’s three.
Ford-People’s Edward Nyamweya, a close associate of Moseti retained his Town Planning docket in an election female councillors cried foul, saying their male colleagues had sidelined them.
Others elected were Jane Justin (Housing and Works), Willy Obiri (Public Health), Bosire (Audit), Kefa Mogaka (HIV/Aids) and Steve Arika (Education and Social Services).
From the mayor’s camp, only Ford-People’s Wilfred Monyenye of Gekomu Ward was elected Joint Staff and General Purpose Committee chairman after Moseti’s camp exhausted councillors to fill the remaining slot.
The Town Clerk, Mr Maina Chira, who presided over the elections pleaded with the councillors to work as a team for the benefit of residents.
Nyangeso urged his colleagues to burry the hatchet and work towards delivering services.
