ODM aspirant for the recent South Mugirango by-election Ibrahim Ochoi is dead. Ochoi collapsed and died while being taken to St Camillus Tabaka Mission Hospital in Gucha South yesterday afternoon.

"He had called me minutes earlier asking that I see him urgently at his home in Tabaka. On my way, I received a call again that he had collapsed," said Mr Enock Ayiema, his younger brother.

Ayiema told The Standard on telephone Ochoi had been suffering from diabetes for the past 20 years.

He said the former Uriri High School principal was admitted to the Ram Memorial Hospital in Kisii for two days during the by-election in June.

Ochoi emerged second after MP Manson Oyongo Nyamweya of Ford People who won the by-election.

Mr Nyamweya and Lands Minister James Orengo sent their condolences to the bereaved family yesterday.
