NYAMIRA Councillors protest over oaths of office

Nyamira county councillors yesterday declined to transact any business until they are sworn in. The more than 40 civic leaders, led by their chairman Charles Aumbi, walked out of their full council meeting after clerk James Aketch declined to swear them in, saying his hands were tied following a directive from Local Government minister Musalia Mudavadi that unlike MPs councillors should not take new oaths of office.
