APs rescue colleague from police cell

Administration police officers in Gucha stormed a police station on Monday to demand the release of their colleague. Five APs went to the residence of Ogembo Police Station deputy OCS and demanded he unconditionally releases their colleague who had been arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

The said officer was reportedly arrested at a filling station within the town for assaulting a boda boda operator on Saturday night allegedly after a drinking spree at a local bar. Attempts by colleagues guarding Ogembo law courts to have him released the same night failed as the deputy OCS maintained he was still drunk.

On Sunday, the group of five APs attached to Gucha DC’s office drove to the station and failed to get the OCS who was at his residence. They walked there and marched him to the station where the arrested officer was released unconditionally.

Gucha deputy OCPD Julius Kyumbule denied the APs had rescued their colleague saying he was released normally after being held overnight.

"The AP was arrested for being drunk and disorderly and since it was at night, he was detained until morning to sober up before being released. There was no such thing as a rescue," said Kyumbule.  Gucha District AP commander Julius Mukanda denied his officer was drunk and disorderly saying the charge was trumped up. "I am aware my officers went to the station but they were not armed. They only asked for the release of their colleague," said Mukanda.
