Two lynched over murder of two Nyamira women

Two men were yesterday lynched by a mob in Nyamira on suspicion that they murdered two women last December. Daniel Nyakundi and Stephen Moseti were flushed out of their hideout in Mwamanwa village, Kitutu Masaba constituency  by the mob.

The two allegedly went underground on December 22 after killing Alice Makori and Jemima Kemuma. The women were found murdered at a neighboring village. The mob frogmatched the two men to a river where they doused them with petrol and set them on fire.

A man, in whose house the suspects were hiding,  was arrested. Matchetes, swords, bows and arrows were found in the house. Items, suspected to have been stolen, were also in the house. Miriri assistant chief Fred Obae said  Nyakundi and Moseti have criminal records.
Residents told the police that they will continue to kill suspected criminals. They jeered Keroka OCS Macmillan Gachau when he attempted to condemn mob justice and the public’s unwillingness to give evidence whenever they suspect anybody. “You must not take the law into your hands because if you’re found you will be charged accordingly. You must learn to present suspects to the law enforcers,” Gachau said amid booing.
