Woman raped, hacked by drunk husband in Nyamira

A woman is admitted at Nyamira District Hospital after she was hacked and sexually assaulted by her husband. The woman from Bokeira village in West Mugirangp said her husband hacked her with a panga in her thighs, feet and arms and then raped her as she bled profusely. “I'm very disturbed by this act. I did not believe he would rape me while I was writhing in pain,” Moraa said.

The 28-year-old woman and a mother of four said her husband arrived home while drunk on Saturday night and after a brief quarrel, he turned violent.

She said her husband batters her whenever he comes home drunk and angry neighbours forced him to take her to hospital the  morning after the incident.

She said she is an orphan and has nowhere to go to escape the beatings. She dropped out of school in standard seven. A source in the hospital said cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in the recent past. Last month, a child was admitted in the same hospital with severe burns allegedly inflicted by his father.
