Daraja Mbili Market in Kisii Closed

Public health officials in Kisii yesterday issued a closure notice to the Kisii Municipal Council to close a market immediately for its failure to comply with regulations.

In the notice to the Town Clerk, area public health officer Francis Makau ordered for immediate closure of Daraja Mbili, the second largest open air market in Western region after Kibuye in Kisumu.

The notice copied to area DC, OCPD, District Environment Officer, and council public health officer, ordered that the market remain closed until the local authority meets the necessary conditions to the satisfaction of the health department.

Some of the conditions the council must meet are provision 10 extra water closets and functional urinal pit and unlock all the open storm water drains.

It was also required to collect the accumulated garbage from the market surroundings and dispose it properly.
