Scores of people were injured when supporters of Bomachoge MP Simon Ogari clashed with people said to be allied to Joel Onyancha, his predecessor, during a schools' prize giving day.
Trouble started when Onyancha's alleged supporters attempted to disrupt the ceremony at Nyakoiba Secondary School in Kenyenya district.
Onyancha denied that the people who attempted to disrupt the function were his supporters and demanded their immediate arrest.
A group at the back of the hall heckled Ogari when he started making his speech.
The public address system was then switched off and a man was beaten up outside the hall when Ogari's supporters accused him of shutting it down.
Another man who was recording the proceedings on a mobile phone inside the hall, was beaten up. He was accused of recording the proceedings for Onyancha.
However, order was restored soon after and Ogari continued with his speech. and accused his predecessor of attempting to disrupt his function.
Ogari termed the incident unfortunate and cautioned against politicizing education issues.
"For the second time, my opponents have attempted to disrupt my functions. They should wait until 2012 we see each other in the ballot instead of resorting to dirty tricks," said Ogari.
"Let them give me ample time to complete my term and deliver services to the people who elected me. It's wrong for us to misuse other people's children to settle political scores," he said.
Speaking to the Star on phone, Onyancha disowned the people who attempted to disrupt the function.
"I don't have supporters in Bomachoge because Ogari is the MP. If the people committed a criminal offence, he should have them arrested and charged," he said.
"I'm an educationist and that is a school I nurtured. It's wrong for somebody to turn around and claim I would disrupt a function I personally supported," he said.
