Pattni wants church fund set up

Parliament has been asked to establish a fund to help build churches. Mr Paul Kamlesh Pattni said Kenyans need decent places to worship.

Speaking at a fundraising meeting at Nyakwerema Catholic Church in North Mugirango Constituency, Nyamira, Pattni asked MPs to draft a Bill to make taxpayers fund churches.

“We can’t discriminate against the church yet we are the same people funding all other projects including the now successful Constituency Development Fund,” he told worshippers. He said with the new Constitution, huge resources will be devolved to the counties and the church should not be left out.

The preacher hailed the new Constitution saying it will open up opportunities for investment at the grassroots. Pattni said he has seen the light after worshiping ‘idols’ for sometime but realised they were useless in the life of man.

Obstructing young people

MPs Victor Munyaka and Charles Nyamai and ODM-Kenya Legal Affairs Secretary Ben Momanyi accompanied Pattni. He donated computers, books, clothes, soccer balls and cash to Nyakwerema secondary and primary schools.

Nyamai and Munyaka lamented that elected leaders were obstructing young people who want to fund development projects.  “Petty politicking should not be our concern. In development, we should be ready to join hands,” they said.

They asked the Minister for Education Sam Ongeri to probe why school heads who invite upcoming politicians to fundraisers were being harassed with transfers.
