South Mugirango MP Ditches Ford People

South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya is warming up to Prime Minister Raila Odinga's ODM party. Nyamweya yesterday confirmed he has ditched Ford People and is open to joining any other political party.

"I will not be defending my seat on a Ford People ticket. That is a fact because the party committed suicide during the recent elections," said the MP who was elected a year ago in a hotly contested by election.

The MP lost the Ford People chairmanship to former cabinet minister Henry Obwocha. He claimed the elections were not free and fair. And the MP will this Sunday host the PM in his constituency. Raila is expected to attend a church service at Kiambori Catholic church before addressing a rally at Nyamarambe.

He will later meet local leaders in Kisii town, Nyamweya said. "I can confirm that I am working with ODM the same way President Kibaki is working with Raila. I have no apologies to make," added the MP.

Nyamweya was recently named by ODM in the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee (CIOC) and the MP said: "If ODM has seen me as a potential person to work with, what is wrong with that? If people say I have moved to ODM, so be it."
