Doctors at Kisii Level 5 hospitals have blamed high cases of pneumonia and common cold in the area on dense population. They said the area, especially towns, is densely populated leading to increase in the cases of the diseases. "The other factor is that this area is very cold. These are the common diseases affecting residents here and most of them have been forced to flock to hospitals," said Dr Matiko Giabe during a medical camp organised by Money Gram.
Money Gram International in conjunction with doctors and nurses from Kisii Level 5 held a medical camp where more than 1,500 women were given free medical treatment for pneumonia and common cold.vvvv
The camp was held on Mother's Day at Kisii Primary School and the international money transfer service also donated drugs for diarrhea and skin infections which doctors said are also rampant .
Area MP who is also the chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health Robert Monda asked the residents to maintain high hygienic standards and ensure they drink treated water. "In many instances, the funds received via money transfer by our customers in Kenya is used for basic needs such as education and health care" said Pia Marangoni the marketing executive for Money Gramm International. A total of 3. 2 million was spent in buying the drugs that were taken to Kisii level 5 hospital.
