A watchman was killed and coffee worth Sh1.8 million stolen from a farmers’ society in Gucha on Saturday night. The watchman identified as Bernard Onyango, 58, was hacked to death and his body tied to a store he was guarding at Nyansongo coffee pulping station in Sameta. The watchman’s body had several cuts and his mouth was gagged with a piece of cloth. The killers then loaded 70 bags of coffee worth Sh1.8 million.
Gucha police chief Richard Ng’etich, Gucha DCIO Hezron Mudho and area acting DC Yusuf Boru visited the scene and promised that investigations would be carried out.
Mudho said the theft may have been an inside job and that committee members and two other watchmen who were supposed to be on duty on the fateful night would be interrogated. The DC asked locals to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of the robbers.
