A district commissioner has formed peace committees along the volatile Nyanza-Rift Valley boarder to address conflicts for peaceful co-existence among the neighbouring communities ahead of next year's general election.
Borabu District Commissioner Hassan Mohammed said the committees made up of members of both the Kisii and Kipsigis communities will hold meetings each month to look for solutions to cattle rustling.
He said, however, cattle rustling had gone down by about 95 per cent.
Mohammed said Provincial administrators were taking positive measures to control conflicts which separated the communities living along the common boarder during the 2007.
"We are trying to encourage the communities to live in harmony before and after any election. We don't want to see a repeat of what happened in 2007," said Mohammed on phone.
The DC said that the government was organising sporting and tribal cultural activities among the bordering communities as one way of enhancing integration and peace.
