Mugirango CDF Team Resigns

Five members of the North Mugirango/Borabu CDF committee led by their chairman have resigned citing frustration from the area MP Wilfred Ombui. Chairman Japheth Nyangate, secretary Ben Kebati and members Wilfred Sese, Joseph Omambia and Onsare Osoro resigned on July 4.

One of the bone of contention is that the board's secretary was blocked from being a signatory to the bank accounts. "Since the financial year 2009/10, we have been to date denied access to CDF information. As a patron you have been briefed on several occasions to take corrective measures but all in vain," read the a letter to the MP by the officials.

The five have also moved to court seeking to freeze the CDF alleging corruption and favouritism in allocating funds for projects. Ombui wondered why the five had resigned saying he expected the committee officials to renew their membership.

The MP confirmed that in some cases, he had overruled the committee and diverted money to projects which had not been approved by the committee. "But some of them had become mischievous after I diverted money they had allocated for springs protection and fish ponds to constructions of schools," Ombui said.

The MP said he took the move after realising that a lot of money had been allocated to the department of water at the expense of that of education. "I decided to be cautious and not to accept every decision the CDF committee made after one of the official listed his elderly mother as one of the bursary beneficiary to complete her driving school," Ombui said.

He said he was preparing to constitute a new CDF committee, considering that the term of service of those who resigned was coming to an end soon.
