VP praises peace initiative in R.Valley

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has praised the peace initiative undertaken by council of elders in the Rift Valley and the neighbouring regions aimed at ensuring harmonious co-existence between communities in the area.

Mr.Musyoka said that it was time Kenyans learn to tolerate and respect each other as people of one nation with a common development agenda.

He added that it was disheartening to note that some selfless politicians continue to engage in divisive politics of hatred and negative ethnicity at the expense of national interest and cohesion.

The Vice President particularly commended residents of Nyamira, Kericho, Kisii   and Bomet Counties for resolving to end their historic differences and live together in harmony regardless of their social and political affiliations.

He was speaking at various centre on his third- day tour of Nyamira and Kisii counties Tuesday.

Mr.Musyoka stopped to acknowledge greeting from wananchi at Ikonge, Nyaricha Special School,  Kibirigo and  Musobet market on his way to a funds drive for Eronge SDA Primary School in  Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira county.

The Vice President also toured Gesima Health Centre in Kitutu Masaba where he presented assortment of beds and beddings to the maternity wing of the centre.

He was accompanied by the area MP,Walter Nyambati, former Cabinet Minister and Ford-People Chairman Henry Obwocha, Kitutu Masaba MP, Walter Nyambati,his Kitutu Chache MP, Richard Onyonka, Makadara Legislator, Gideon Mbuvi (SONKO) and his Machakos town counterpart, Dr. Victor Munyaka and the PNU activists, Stanley Livondo, Home Affairs PS, Ludeki Chweya and the Commissioner of Prisons, Isaiah Osugo among other  leaders.

The Vice President appealed to parents with children suffering from physical challenges not to hide them at home but instead enroll them in special school.

Mr. Musyoka said that the physically challenged children have their rights as any other normal child in the society.

The Vice President re-assured that Parliament is committed to full implementation of the new Constitution to enable Kenyans to realize their aspirations provided for in the Document

Mr.  Musyoka said devolved government under the new Law will ensure equitable distribution of national resources and cushion against marginalization.

The Vice President said that the Constitution protects the interests of all Kenyans including ownership of property anywhere in the country without intimidation.

On local matters, the Vice President assured the Nyamira residents that the Kibirigo- Metamaywa- Keroka road will soon be upgraded to link the area with other parts of the country and enable farmers to market their produce.

The Makadara MP Mbuvi and the PNU Activist, Stanley Livondo promised to mobilize the youth in support of Mr. Musyoka in his bid for the country's leadership.

The called on the Government to ensure prompt issuance of identification cards to enable them venture into business and also actively participate in electoral process.

He at the same time said a police post will be located at Kibirigo Market to address issues of crime and general insecurity.

On Monday evening, the Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka  told Gusii community to unite and speak with one voice ahead of the next General Election.

Mr. Musyoka said unless the Gusii community remain united and speak with one voice, presidential aspirants will not take them seriously.

Addressing a leaders meeting in Nyamira town on Monday evening, the Vice President urged voters from the region not to be divided by some leaders harbouring presidential ambitions.

"We do not stand a chance of having one of your own as running mate for any serious presidential candidate if you do not unite and speak with one voice,'' said Mr. Musyoka.

He urged leaders to shun petty squabbles and take advantage of the existing public goodwill to focus on issues that would move the country forward.

The Vice President called upon Kenyans to rally their support behind the government and other anti-graft agencies in the renewed fight against corruption in the country.

Mr. Musyoka said with the passage of the new constitution, efforts have been intensified in the fight against the vice.

Stressing that the new Constitution provided a firm foundation for the economic transformation of the country, Mr. Musyoka said there is need to empower the youth through initiation of projects which can uplift their living standards.

The Vice President said Kenya has taken various measures to empower the youth.

He pointed out that Kenya's new Constitution guarantees participation by the youth in socio-economic and political arenas.

He said that the Constitution is further reinforced by the Kenya Government's commitment to the country's development blueprint, VISION 2030, which has identified flagship projects to integrate the youth in development activities.

He noted that famine currently witnessed in some parts of the country is largely to blame on corruption of public resource.

"But days for corruption individuals in Kenya are now numbered,'' he said.

Responding to complaints by leaders that many youths in the area had no IDs, Mr. Musyoka said the cabinet had recently approved the renewal of a contract by the Ministry of State for Immigration and Registration of Persons for the production and issuance of two million national identity cards.

Mr. Musyoka said efforts were being made to solve the problem surrounding the ownership of Migingo highland, saying the highland belongs to Kenya.

"We all know that Migingo belongs to Kenya and will soon be returned to the country,'' he said.
