TEACHERS from four counties have opposed recommendations bya task force to have head teachers work on a three-year contract. Addressing the press at Kisii branch Knut offices, executive secretaries from 14 branches in four counties said they will oppose the recommendations to have head teachers sign contracts.

In a joint statement read by assistant national treasurerRichard Kibagendi the secretaries from Kisii, Nyamira, Homa Bay and Migori counties said the proposals by the task force are unrealistic. The task force proposed that head teachers should set goals against which their performance will be measured.

It also proposed that the ministry set minimumqualifications for head teachers based on skills, competencies, basic trainingin financial management and strategic leadership. “We are not going toaccept the proposals by the task force to have head teachers work on arenewable contract basis. The move is uncalled for and we will resist it,” Kibagendi said.
