POLITICIAN Don Bosco Gichana now claims his life is in danger after a raid at his home in Nyakoe, Kisii county.
Speaking on phone, Gichana claimed that four people went to his home on Tuesday morning and demanded to see him. "They told the security guard that they wanted to see me a failure to which they will set ablaze my house," Gichana told the Star.
He said the security guard alerted his father who called the police. "The officers responded but managed to arrest a relative of a politician who was later released," Gichana added. He claimed three others escaped and have not been arrested. Gichana wondered why the suspect who was arrested was later released by police.
The suspects he claimed are members of the illegal Sungu Sungu vigilante group. "I'm demanding the immediate arrest of the four suspects including the relative of the politician," added Gichana.
Gichana who has declared his interest in the Kitutu Chache parliamentary seat and the chairmanship of the Orange Young Democrats said Tuesday's raid was the second. "The raids have now made me to abandon the house. This is connected to my intention to contest seats in ODM and the constituency," he added. "I will not be cowed, they will not scare me and I will not chicken out of politics. I will come out in a big way as from next year," added Gichana.
Kisii police Chief Tom Mutisya dismissed Gichana's claims saying the suspects had gone to his neighbour's home. "They went to his neighbour's house and police on patrol arrested one suspect whom they released after interrogation and this happened on Christmas day. I'm not aware of the raid at Gichana's home," said Mutisya. However, Gichana maintained that the people targeted his home and asked police to investigate before jumping into conclusions.
