Shabana, Gusii for Nationwide League

Shabana FC and Gusii United will represent Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nyanza South branch in the Nationwide Division One western zone this season. Branch chairman Peter Omwando confirmed the entry of the twio teams. United played in the league last season and finished 12th. “We want to field two teams in the league,” Omwando said in Kisii yesterday. “When I was campaigning, I promised to have one team from this region in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) and I’m sure any of the two teams will be promoted at the end of the season,” he added.

Omwando asked the two clubs to start early preparations for the Nationwide, saying it is expected to be more competitive than the KPL. “Nationwide will be very competitive because most of the teams are experienced,” he added. He said with teams like—Mahakama, KRA, Congo and Bandari— the competition will be cut-throat. Gusii United coach Rashid Omar said the team will be seeking promotion to the KPL. “We are yet to start training but the players are psyched up for the big league,” he noted.
