LEADERS from Kisii and Nyamira counties are rallying the people against boundaries of two constituencies as proposed in the recently released Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission report. Several meetings are slated for next week to prepare memoranda to be presented to the IEBC.
The leaders want to adopt a common stand against the boundaries as contained in the report. On the proposed Gucha constituency, Bomachoge MP Simon Ogari yesterday said: “We are rallying people to raise their opposition to this constituency. We are raising our concerns by all means including peaceful demonstrations."
The assistant minister for Transport said Bomachoge leaders were against the carving out of some wards from the constituency and neighbouring Bobasi. Ford People director of elections, Albert Nyaundi, called for the splitting of Bomachoge into Bomachoge Chache and Bomachoge Borabu as proposed by the people.
His views were shared by former NSSF managing trustee Naftali Mogere who said: “Nothing should be forced down people’s throats. Politicians come and go and therefore should not influence the boundaries.” Bomachoge ODM chairman Joash Maangi called for calm and sobriety in the debate over boundaries.
North Mugirango leaders have rejected the inclusion of four wards from Kitutu Masaba in the proposed Borabu constituency. The leaders among them area MP Wilfred Ombui, Nairobi businessman Patrick Osero and parliamentary contender Leonard Mogaru vowed to reject the proposals.
