Leaders in North Mugirango have rejected the inclusion of five wards from Kitutu Masaba in the proposed Borabu constituency.
North Mugirango MP Wilfred Ombui, Nairobi businessman Patrick Osero and parliamentary contender Leonard Mogaru vowed to reject the proposals by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission.
Ombui, who is also the assistant minister for National Heritage, said his Kitutu Masaba counterpart Walter Nyambati had also rejected the carving out of the wards. "We are going to take a common position as leaders from the two constituencies to reject the proposals," he told the Star in a telephone interview.
Osero said Borabu leaders will meet today to deliberate on the way forward. "We are going to have our memorandum. The people of Kitutu Masaba have a common memorandum," added Osero. "We will never accept the proposal by the IEBC because Borabu have the requisite numbers and we don't want any wards from Kitutu Masaba," said Ombui. "The IEBC should listen and take our views into consideration. We don't want problems," said Mogaru.
According to the IEBC report, the five wards from Kitutu Masaba that will be moved to the proposed Borabu constituency are Gesima, Mochenwa, Bocharia, Nyasore and Embaro East location. Kerumbe sub-location from Borabu has been carved out to North Mugirango. The IEBC will today start countrywide consultative forums on new constituency and ward boundaries. The exercise ends on January 26.
