Thebody of a Kisii taxi driver who went missing a week ago was yesterdaydiscovered in a thicket in Migori town.
Elijah Onchiri Omosa was discovered by a passerby in thethicket. JoelMabuka, the chairman of taxi drivers association in the area said Omosa's eyes had been gorged out and his private parts cut off. "Wehave been searching for him for one week. We were shocked when we received information that he had been found murdered in a thicket," said Mabuka.
Omosa's colleagues said some clients hired his taxi late on Friday. That was the last time he was seen alive. "Wewent to the scene and identified the body before it was transferred to Migori mortuary,"he added. Taxi drivers in the town had organised a peaceful demonstration to pressurise police to launchinvestigation into the Omosa's disappearance.
Aday after the demonstration, OCPD Tom Mutisya said two peoplehad been arrested in connection with Omosa's disappearance. Omosa's brother, Job Omosa, called on the police to arrest his killers. "We are yet to come to terms with his death. We have been searching for him tirelessly and yesterday we found his body in the thicket," Job said. "We are calling on the police to arrest the killers. We have no idea what the motive of the murder was.
This brings to sharp focus the rising insecurity and the risk taxi drivers face. There are thugs who masquerade as genuine clients and they eaither steal or kill you," added the taxi driver. Mabuka said police have not sinceinformed them of any progress since the two suspects were arrested.
