Gesami boycotts Nyamira ODM polls as Bosire wins

ASSISTANTminister James Gesami yesterday boycotted the Nyamira branch Orange Democratic Movement's elections evenafter successfully campaigning  to have the polls repeated. Gesami, the West Mugirango MP and assistant minister for Public Health convinced the ODM National Elections Board to have the pollsrepeated but failed to show up at the elections' venue yesterday. TimothyBosire was elected chairman unopposed during the polls at Viongozi PastoralCentre.

Otherselected were Elijah Nyamagwa (vice chairman), Lewis Nyakweba (secretary),Samuel Kurura (deputy secretary), Andrew Magangi (organising secretary), JohnBikundo (deputy organising secretary), Charles Sagwe (treasurer) and David M. Gichana(deputy treasurer). AlfridaGisairo and Julius Marita were elected women andyouth representatives respectively.

The returningofficer, Denish Kaumba, said the exercise was free and fair. “I have seen somedelegates from West Mugirango and I’m happy with that. The era of following anindividual from behind is long gone,” said Kaumba. “We havefollowed all the laid down procedures and I want to assure you that the exercisewill not be repeated again,” added Kaumba.

Bosire said he will incorporate Gesami in the affairs of the party. “Gesami isan assistant minister and a senior member of the party. We have to involve himin the party,” said Bosire. He saidGesami should have participated in the election.“Surprisingly,he has again failed to show up for reasons better known to him. In an electionprocess, we have winners and losers. He should have come here we compete in theelection,” said Bosire.

Bosiresaid he faces a tough task of uniting the party members. “It is not easy but we have mechanismsto deal with a fall-outs. We have a big responsibility of bringing the partytogether and opening ways for others,” he said. He said the party, ''beingthe most popular and organised'', will clinch the presidency in the general election. “We aregoing to work overtime to entrench the party and enhance its popularity at thegrassroots,” he told ODM delegates after he was elected.
