IEBC encounters chaos in Kisii

Chaos marred proceedings during day one of the Interim Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) public hearings in Kisii County over demarcation of boundaries.

One person sustained slight injuries during a clash at the packed Gusii County Hall moments after Bomachoge MP Simon Ogari had finished making his presentation to the commission. Tension was high as Bomachoge and Bobasi constituents presented views over the proposed Gucha constituency.

IEBC officials led by Commissioner Kule Godana and director Praxedes Tororey were forced to separate the two groups by asking Bobasi constituents to leave the hall as Bomachoge constituents presented theirs views.

Chaos broke out when a section of Bomachoge constituents demanded to be given a hearing over the demarcation of the proposed Bosoti/Nyaisero ward.

Efforts by Education minister Sam Ongeri and Public Works colleague Chris Obure to calm the crowd fell on deaf ears prompting the two ministers to leave the hall.

Police intervened and flushed out the raucous public from the hall before order was restored.
