Gusii Shabana shocked at league omission

A war is brewing at the Football Kenya Federation [FKF] offices over the omission of Gusii Shabana United FC from the list of teams playing in the 2012 Division One league.

Gusii, who finished 12th in the 2011 Football Kenya Limited [FKL]-run Nationwide Division One, had until recently been assured of a slot in the second tier, when the league kicks off on 25 February.

However, unknown to them, individuals purporting to be the club’s representatives walked into the FKF offices with a letter declaring that Gusii and Shabana FC [which played a few matches in the Kenya Football Federation [KFF]-run Division One before pulling out] had merged under the name Shabana FC.

Gusii Shabana deny knowledge of the arrangement.

-No merger of such sorts has taken place and we are remain the bonafide claimants of the Western Zone slot, Mike Odongo, a representative of the Don Bosco Foundation [Gusii Shabana’s sponsors], told Futaa.com.

-We have lodged a protest with FKF Secretary General Lordvick and he has directed us to write a letter to the federation, explaining our case.

Shabana FC have already been given the go-ahead to play in league, while Gusii Shabana have been left bewildered by the turn of events.
