Fish farmers in Kisii reap huge

A district fisheries officer yesterday revealed that fish farmers in Kisii county have earned Sh4.4 million from 19 tonnes of fish under the Economic Stimulus Programme. Edwin Muga said the fish had been harvested from 236 ESP funded ponds spread in Nyaribari Chache, Bonchari, Nyaribari Masaba and Kitutu Chache constituencies.

Muga said 1,200 fish ponds had been stocked in the area. “The demand for fish is high in the region and that is why we are encouraging more farmers to venture into it. We have since stocked 1200 fish ponds,” he said. Muga appealed to the fish farmers from the constituencies to collect fish feed from the District fish Multiplication centre at Kisii Bus Park to boost production.
