Nyamira teacher killed in lorry accident

A high school teacher in Nyamira county was yesterday run over by a truck. George Bundi Omayo, an English and Literature teacher at Nyamira Boys’ High School, died on the spot. A witness, Peter Oresi, said Omayo jumped on the road and the driver's attempt to avoid hitting him was in vain.

However, Omayo’s relatives accused the driver of careless driving. “Why didn’t the driver apply the brakes when he saw him on the road?,” one of them asked. Speaking on their behalf at the Nyamira District Hospital mortuary, Fredrick Motio said Omayo was the bread winner of his family. A medic at the hospital claimed many accidents occur on the Nyamira-Senta road because there are no speed bumps.
