Manson backs ODM hopeful in Kitutu Masaba election

SOUTH Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya yesterday declared he would support the ODM candidate in the forthcoming Kitutu Masaba by-election. Manson, a member of the Ford People party, said he would campaign for ODM's Timothy Bosire. “It is not an issue of parties here. I’m going to support Bosire in my personal capacity and will campaign for him,” Manson said.
Ford People has nominated former area MP Mwancha Okioma to face off with 14 other candidates cleared for the November 28 by-election by the Interim Independent Electoral Commission. The MP is facing disciplinary action from his party for associating with ODM. The party has written to Manson asking him to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
However, Manson scoffed at the move by the party accusing the chairman Henry Obwocha of a personal vendetta against him. The MP was appointed assistant minister for Trade on the recommendation of Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Manson has declared he will support the PM’s presidential bid in next year’s general election.
Elsewehere, a candidate in the Kitutu Masaba by-election yesterday said the state of roads will determine the outcome of the poll. Former PC Zachary Ogonko, who is vying for the seat on a Narc ticket, said poor roads are a concern for the constituents who depend on agriculture. “The state of infrastructure is a factor in the by-election because it plays a great role in the growth of the agricultural sector in the area. The poor roads will influence on the kind of leaders that will be elected in the exercise,” Ogongo said.
The former PC, who made the remarks on his campaign trail at lower Birongo, also said that poor leadership and misuse of public funds will also determine the outcome. He said tea farmers in the constituency were making losses because their tea gets spoilt at the buying centres since many roads become impassable for vehicles ferrying the tea especially during the rainy season.
Ogongo said clan would not play a role in the by-election. “I am one person who does not believe in clanism. That is why I am encouraging voters to ignore those preaching it,” he said. The former PC at the same time said that if elected he will involve women and the youth in
