37 Somalis arrested in Kisii

Thirty seven people believed to be of Somali origin were nabbed in Kisii yerterday in a major police operation aimed at members of the Al shabaab militants.The 37 were arrested in various parts of the town when the police led by area deputy OCPD Isaac Meme mounted the crackdown last night. Following the swoop, some business owned by the Somalis remained closed in the better part of the day since the owners’ deserted fearing arrest.

Briefing the press in his office, Meme said police have mounted a road block on the major Kisii-Nairobi highway to arrest those who attempt to escape. “As I am speaking to you those arrested are in police custody waiting vetting by officials from the National Intelligence service, Registrar of persons, Immigration and the DCIO’s office to establish their legality here,” Meme said.
