Nyamira farmers oppose Simbauti Farm sale

A group of farmers opposed to the illegal sale of Simbauti Farm in Nyamira have vowed to stay put until their complaints are addressed by the government. The more than 100 farmers calling themselves the Simbauti Self-Help Group have been camping at the farm in Borabu district for a week.

The chairman, Peter Ochoki, said they will continue with the strike until the government addresses their grievances. The farm is owned by 25 primary societies. Last week, the Kisii Farmers Union general manager Robert Mainya dismissed the protesters as imposters. Yesterday, Borabu DC Mohammed Noor said they are vetting the protesters to establish whether they are genuine members or not.
