The farmers claimed that larger portion of the land they bought in land in 1964 has been sold to non-members without their involvement. Under the umbrella of Simbauti Self Help Group, the growers led by their chairman Peter Ongwenyi, Secretary Tom Ratemo and Treasurer Dorca Masaka, stormed the farm vowed not to move until their concerns are addressed.

However, GCFCU general manager Robert Mainya said that the issue of Simbauti is a long gone issue and should never be revisited. Mainya said that those complaining that their land has been sold were not genuine members saying the society only recognizes individual society not persons.
