ODM to name Kitutu by-election candidate

NAIROBI businessman Timothy Bosire will be the ODM flag bearer in the November 28 Kitutu Masaba by-election. Bosire is the only candidate who beat the Friday deadline for submitting his application to the party. The party is expected to officially name Bosire who is also the Kitutu Masaba branch chairman as their candidate today after vetting his application, a source at the party secretariat said. “We only received one application that is from Bosire and the elections board is looking at his documents before announcing him as our candidate,” said the source.

According to the party’s elections board secretary Joseph Misoi, candidates wishing to contest the seat were expected to produce a tax clearance certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority, a clearance from the Higher Education Loans Board, clearance from the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission and a certificate of good conduct from theCriminal Investigations Department.

Speaking to the Star, Bosire confirmed he submitted his applications last week. “I submitted my application last week to the board and I expect to be cleared to contest the seat,” he said. He said the party had placed advertisements in the press asking candidates to apply a move he said was democratic.Bosire said he was ready for party nominations if there are other candidates who applied.

Others in the race are former MPs Walter Nyambati (NLP), Mwancha Okioma (Ford People), Nairobi lawyers Nyambega Mose (Narc Kenya), Shadrack Mose (Kenya National Congress), Patrick Omani Nyamweya (PDP), Obwaya Onsinyo and gospel artiste Alex Apoko. The seat became vacant after a successful petition by Justus Omiti who was Bosire’s chief agent.
