Crackdown on illicit brew intensified in Kisii county

The provincial administration in Gucha South district has destroyed more than 10,000 litres of kangara and netted 148 litres of chang’aa in a crackdown on illegal brews. The raid comes a day after administration police in Kisii destroyed over 10,000 litres of illicit liquor in two villages in Mosocho division in Kitutu Chache constituency on Wednesday night.

Gucha South DC Geoffrey Mayama said that the illicit liquor was impounded in Nyamarambe, Tabaka and Etago divisions. Mayama said that during the impromptu crackdown, 44 people were arrested and will be charged in court. The crackdown comes two days after Internal Security minister George Saitoti declared total war on the brewing of illicit liquor countrywide. “During the swoop we managed to destroy a total of 9,780 litres of kangara and 148 litres of changaa in the mentioned divisions. The crackdown will continue until those engaged in the business stop,” he said.
