Kisii MPs have agreed to take part in the ongoing Kisii unity talks. However the MPs who had initially opposed the talks agreed to take part on condition that some people involved in the talks get excluded. The new resolution by the MPs comes after a preparatory meeting with the former cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae.
The Kisii Consultative Forum-led talks have been shunned by Robert Monda (Nyaribari Chache), Charles Onyancha (Bonchari), Chris Obure(Bobasi) Dr James Gesami(West Mugirango), Simon Ogari (Bomachoge) and Richard Onyonka (Kitutu Chache). Only Education minister Sam Ongeri, assiatnt minister Wilfred Ombui and former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati supported the talks initially.
One of the MPs told the Star that they have agreed to join the talks after agreeing to drop people with vested interests. “After meeting Nyachae at a Nairobi Hotel, we resolved to take part in the talks but on condition that we lead the talks and people with questionable characters are dropped,” said the MP who requested not to be named.
Public Works minister Chris Obure said some people want to use the forum to advance their political agenda while others are mere busy bodies. "To read from the same page, some people should be weeded out,” he said.
Obure defended the meeting with Nyachae saying it was necessary for them to know more about the talks which Nyachae is spearheading. He said if the talks were about endorsing one presidential candidate from the community then it will not be possible. Obure and Nyamweya however skipped the meeting with Nyachae. Obure said he had an urgent matter to sort out on the particular day.
