Kitutu Masaba poll set for Nov 28th

The Kitutu Masaba by election will be held on 28th November this year.

The Interim Independent Electoral commission has put November 2nd and 3rd as the nomination dates.

In a gazette notice, IIEBC appointed Fredrick Owino the returning officer of the by-election.

The seat fell vacant on August 12 when Kisii Resident Judge Milton Makhandia nullified the election of Walter Nyambati.

In his ruling Justice Makhandia said the petitioner had proved beyond reasonable doubt that there were irregularities in the 2007 polls.

This is the 11th by-election to be held under the current Parliament. Ten by-elections have been held following the filing of successful petitions.

Only three MPs, Ikolomani's Bonny Khalwale, housing assistant minister Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Trade Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere successfully recaptured their seats after by-elections were conducted in their constituencies.

Most recently, the High Court in Nyeri nullified the election of Gatundu North MP Clement Waibara due to irregularities but he got a temporary reprieve when the Court of Appeal stayed the execution of the judgment for a period of two months.
