Two Arrow Attack Victims Recuperate in Kisii Hospital

Two men are recuperating at Kisii level 5 Hospital after suspected cattle rustlers shot them with arrows in two different villages along Borabu/Sotik common border. The two Clement Ocharo 55, and Sagwe Mbeche, 40, were attacked at Nderema and Saiga villages respectively in Isoge-Kineni sub-location by thieves who wanted to drive away their cattle.

The hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr Geoffrey Otomu said Ocharo and Mbeche had arrows lodged in their thigh and stomach respectively but had successfully been operated to remove the arrows."The two are undergoing treatment and are in stable condition," Dr Otomu said. Area assistant chief Euphan Rosana said calm has been restored in the area.

She said the provincial adminstration from both sides were working closely to apprehend the culprits. "I am urging you to be calm as we pursue the attackers. We want to live in harmony with our neighbours that is why administrators from both sides are working to see that those behind the attacks get arrested," she said.

The incident came barely a week after two supreme cultural authorities from Nyanza and Rift Valley provinces agreed to hold regular peace meetings to discuss inter-ethnic conflicts along the common border. The Abagusii cultural and development council and Myoot Kipsigis council of elders cited stock theft, incitement and land as the major causes of conflicts along the volatile Nyanza/Rift Valley border.

The two communities resolved to champion for peaceful co-existence among the communities residing along the border ahead of next year's General election. Led by their respective chairmen Araka Matundura (Gusii) and his Kipsigis counterpart Joseph Sang, the leaders vowed to take positive measures to reverse the trend.Araka and Sang urged members of the public and security agents to cooperate to control stock theft along Borabu-Sotik boundary.
