Kisii leaders want Onyonka to be governor

CIVIC leaders from Kitutu chache constituency have supported foreign affairs assistant minister Richard Onyonka who is also the area member of parliament for the post of governor for the Kisii County come the next general elections.

Led by Andrew Monanyi (Ikuruma ward) and Bernard Magama (Kegogi ward), the civic leaders said that it was his democratic right to vie for the seat because he had all the required credentials.

Addressing mourners in Kegogi village within the constituency during the burial of a former prison warden, the civic leaders said that Onyonka had demonstrated well as a first tim MP by utilizing the taxpayers money well especially the constituency development fund (CDF) and economic stimulus programme (ESP) where all corners of the constituency received their right full share.

Momanyi said that Onyonka should start visiting other areas of the Kisii County to mobilize his supporters because he stands a good chance of winning the seat.

 The politician is the first sitting MP from the Gusii region to openly declare that he will not be defending his seat come the next general elections because he will be vying for the of governorship.

Another Nairobi based businessman Robert Nyakang’a has also declared his interest for the post of senator for the Nyamira County in the next elections.

 Leaders from the Gusii region which consist of Kisii and Nyamira counties have been meeting in and outside Gusiiland to strategize on the best candidates who will help to jumpstart the counties by mobilizing the local resources for a stable economy.

Yesterday, the councilors said that although there were other candidates who were yet to declare their interest on the posts they will be vying for it was important for Onyonka to start making inroads in other constituencies..
