Forty four students at a private secondary school in Kisii County will not sit national examinations after the owner of the school failed to register them.
The students at Upridge Secondary School in Kiogoro division were surprised to discover that they were not registered although they had paid examination fee. “I discovered that my name and those of my colleagues were not after a search in the internet. The owner of the school had referred us to the internet,” Isabella Ouru said as tears rolled down her cheeks. The students became suspicious after the owner David Ong’au refused to show them their index numbers.
A parent Rose Nyakang’o whose son George Getare is also not registered said she had paid the Sh4,500 examination fees and had cleared all the fees but her son is not registered.
Kisii District Commissioner Benjamin Njoroge who was informed by area DEO Martin Mwalo ordered for the immediate arrest of the proprietor.
The DC said that the affected parents and students had recorded statements with the CID and appropriate action will be taken. Mwalo said that that the school owner had registered 51 students but had not shown them their index numbers fearing he will alert the unregistered ones.
