Kitutu Masaba aspirants start campaigns

THREE days after the Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati lost his seat candidates are lining up for the by election, even before the seat is officially declared vacant by the Speaker of the National Assembly. Nyambati and ODM candidate Timothy Bosire traversed the constituency immediately after Justice Milton Makhandia declared Nyambati’s election null and void.

The two separately thanked the people of Kitutu Masaba for giving them support during the years the case has been in court. Bosire’s supporter Justus Omiti filed the petition which led to Nyambati’s fall on Friday. Nyambati and Bosire are spoiling for a fight and are likely to face a host of other aspirants. In the last election, 33 candidates battled it out for the post of MP. “Whether the 33 candidates will stand is not for me to decide because its not within my control. It’s a moral question here as to where they have been all this long and why they did not raise a finger,” said Bosire the area ODM chairman. “My opinion is they endorsed the illegitimate leadership. If they join the race, they will be doing so to spoil,” said Bosire.

Bosire who held an impromptu meeting at Omogonchoro, Kemera, Tombe, Nyamwanga, Magombo, Gesima and Keroka said he has started putting up structures for the by-election. Nyambati, the former chairman of the Parliamentary Service Commission, said he is ready for the by election. “My election will be confirmed by the people of Kitutu Masaba with a landslide victory,” he said. Another candidate expected to throw his hat in the ring is lawyer Nyambega Mose who also filed a petition but lost at the high court and court of appeal.
