Nyamira Council gets new team

Nyamira County Council finally held elections and Alfayo Mabera from Borabu beat former chairman Charles Mosongo with 26 to 14 votes.

Last Fridays elections, marred by boycotts and a suspicious court order, took place after the intervention of the Local Government PS Karega Mutahi. The PS ordered County Clerk James Oketch to oversee the poll. The council covers North Mugirango, West Mugirango and Kitutu Masaba constituencies.

Councillors made good Eldoret North MP William Rutos declaration last month that they should be allied to Mr Patrick Osero, who "will henceforth be the face of Nyamira and Borabu politics."

The new team of Alloys Opande (Finance), Boniface Ombwori (Planning), Juma Mogeni (Education), Japheth Omosa (Audit), Peterson Onwonga (Joint Staff), Wilfred Omingo (Health) and Andrew Magangi (HIV) is in office courtesy of what is being termed the "Osero Wave" and the UDMs tentative steps into the larger Gusii.
