THE Gusii Leaders Consultative Forum now plans to extend its unity talks to neighbouring ethnic communities. The group says it has decided to reach their neighbours in a bid to foster peaceful coexistence. The Kisii community, the group reckoned, bore the greatest brunt of the 2008 post election violence when they were evicted from their homes in Rift Valley and Kisumu. The border point between the Kipsigis and Kisii communities along Chepilat on the Borabu/Sotik area was the worst hit.
According to the forum’s officials, a team will be tasked to hold talks with leaders from the Maasai, Kipsigis and Luo communities who are neighbours the Kisii community. Three officials and four former MPs told reporters in Nairobi yesterday that the team not only hoped to unite their community but also their neighbours. “We recognize that if their will be no good relationship with our neighbours, then our people will never enjoy peace,” chairman Engineer Justus Mochoge said. Others who attended the meeting included Lucas Mogoa (Secretary) and Charles Ongoto (Treasurer), former MPs Joseph Kiangoi. Jimmy Angwenyi, Zepedeo Opore while OMingo Magara sent apologies.
