Gekomoni Now Eyes School Football Title

DEBUTANTS Gekomoni Secondary School from Nyamira County have set their sights on the boys national football title.

Gekomoni are seeking to emulate St. Mark's Mokorogoinwa, who won the title last year on their debut. The school principal Mong'are Okoyo said they are looking beyond the nationals and will also give a shot at the East African schools championship title.

"Nyanza has got a history that any team that makes a maiden appearance in the national games wins the title and we are seeking to repeat the same feat," Okoyo said.

The national championships will be held next week at Moi Forces Academy in Nairobi. Mokorogoinwa upset several big schools including Mokorogoinwa during the Nyanza Provincial Championships at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho last month.

The principal said despite training on uneven and rocky school play ground, the players are determined to win the national title on their maiden appearance.
